Infants’ Health Foundation is a grass root hybrid social enterprise providing home based maternal-child health care services while improving maternal nutrition through grain fortification in order to prevent birth defects. We target rural women of reproductive age typically 16-35 and Infants of 0-2 years who are far away from health facilities and live in hard to reach remote villages of Uganda. Regardless of ethnicity, race or religion.
The organization works towards its mission through education campaigns, home based quality maternal health care services and grain fortification.
We provide maternal and child healthcare services to mothers in their homes by a network of qualified mobile nurses. The pregnant and new mothers nearer each other are registered and organized in small groups and always meet in one agreed home to receive our services. We believe that every baby deserves the best possible start. Unfortunately, not all babies get one. We are working to change that.
We carry out outreaches, awareness raising and educational campaigns to teach mothers, the communities, the media, policy makers and other stake holders about the causes, risk factors and possible effective preventions of birth defects prior to, during and after pregnancy.
Grain fortification. We process and supply fortified super mama porridge flour enriched with folic acid and iron for healthy mothers and healthy fetal development. We do this to ensure nutritive diet by the mothers before conception and during pregnancy, the raw materials are bought directly from rural farmers at fair prices in order to eliminate the middle men who buy at lower prices from farmers and double prices in the market. Super mama porridge flour is a mixture of maize, rice and soya, fortified by folic acid and iron premixes.
We are always stronger and more committed to providing and guiding moms through every stage of the pregnancy journey. We are fighting for and supporting rural poor moms and their infants live healthy each and every day in the critical stage of life (1,000 days) of pregnancy. We declared war against birth defects and maternal malnutrition and we never stop fighting. “Infants’ Health Foundation Laboring for Healthy Fetal Development”.
